A value added course on the topic “Stigma and Mental Illness” was conducted on 30th July 2025 at Sree Anjaneya College of Nursing, MMC Campus, Modakkallur, Kozhikode. The session was organized by the Department of Mental Health Nursing with the guidance and support of Dr. Prof. Georly George, Principal and Patron of the program, and under the leadership of Ms. Athulya KV, Convener and Head of the Department of Mental Health Nursing.

The session was led by Ms. Anusree T, Lecturer, Department of Mental Health Nursing, SACON. She delivered an engaging and informative session focused on the various forms of stigma associated with mental illness, including public stigma, self-stigma, and institutional stigma. She highlighted the negative impacts stigma has on help-seeking behaviour, treatment adherence, and the overall well-being of individuals affected by mental illness. Interactive discussions, real-life case scenarios, and group reflections helped students understand how stigma can be addressed through education, advocacy, and empathetic care. The session also stressed the role of nurses in challenging societal misconceptions and promoting mental health awareness.

The program was well-received by the participants, who appreciated the depth of content and relevance to their future roles as mental health professionals. The support of the Principal and Convener contributed significantly to the successful organization of the event.
